The specialists the trade calls

Wrong fuel is the entire business at Fuel Fixer, and has been since 2009. Our engineers are local to your region and know these roads, so when you ring you are talking to somebody who can actually get to you rather than a call centre. The garages call us. The main dealers call us. The recovery firms and the insurers call us. You can call us direct and skip the middleman, the mark-up and the wait.

  • Real engineers, not a call centre. Based across every county, answering the phone day or night.
  • Callout from €99. You know the price on the call, before anyone sets off. No meter running, no surprises on arrival.
  • No tow, no garage bill. Sorted where you stand, usually inside the hour. VAT invoice and engine report included.
  • Licensed, compliant disposal. Nothing we remove is dumped. It is held securely and re-refined back into the supply chain.

What actually happens in the engine

It becomes serious the moment the engine is asked to run on it. Drained before that, it is a routine roadside job. Driven on, it reaches the most expensive parts of the fuel system.

  • Petrol in a diesel is the serious one. A diesel system is lubricated by its fuel. Petrol is a solvent and thins that lubrication away, so running it pushes petrol through the pump and injectors dry.
  • Diesel in a petrol chokes rather than strips. It fouls plugs, clogs injectors and coats the lines, so the car smokes white, loses power and cuts out. Brimming with unleaded removes nothing.
  • No amount is safe to drive on. Petrol strips lubrication at a few percent, so a splash is still contamination. You also cannot know the real ratio, and that guess is the gamble.
  • Contaminated fuel, a bad batch or water behaves the same way and gets the same treatment. Whatever is in there, we drain it.

The questions everyone asks

I have put petrol in my diesel car, what should I do?
Do not start the car. If you are already driving, pull over and switch off as soon as it is safe. Hazard lights on, get out, then ring Fuel Fixer on 01 506 0386. An engineer reaches you in about 46 minutes and drains it on the spot, roadside, on a forecourt or at home. Callout from 99 euro.
Does it matter how much wrong fuel went in?
No amount of wrong fuel is safe to drive on. Petrol strips lubrication in a diesel at even a few percent, so a splash is still contamination and diluting it removes nothing. Whatever went in, 5 litres, 20 litres or a full tank, do not start the engine.
I put unleaded in my diesel. Is that the same thing?
Yes. Unleaded and petrol are the same fuel, so unleaded in a diesel is a petrol-in-diesel misfuel and the advice is identical. It is the most common call we take, largely because a diesel filler neck accepts an unleaded nozzle easily.
What is worse, petrol in a diesel or diesel in a petrol?
Both are bad. Petrol in a diesel is the more serious because petrol strips the lubrication the high-pressure pump and injectors depend on. Diesel in a petrol will not burn properly, so the car smokes, loses power and cuts out. Either way it should come out before the car is driven.
How much does it cost?
Callout starts from 99 euro and you are told the price on the phone before an engineer sets off. It depends on where you are, what you drive and how much needs removing. No tow, no garage bill, no dealer mark-up, and a VAT invoice and engine report are included.
Do you cover the whole country?
Yes. Engineers based across every county, with an average arrival of about 46 minutes. Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford, Drogheda, Dundalk, Bray, Navan, Kilkenny, Sligo, Athlone, Ennis, Tralee, Wexford and everywhere between.
